Pre-engineered steel buildings are designed to make construction faster, easier, and more affordable. At Titan Steel Buildings, we provide pre-engineered options that give you all the strength of steel with the convenience of a quicker setup. These buildings come ready to assemble, saving you time without cutting corners on quality.
Whether you need a warehouse, workshop, storage space, or commercial building, pre-engineered steel makes it simple to get the right fit for your needs.
Pre-engineered vs. prefabricated: a pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) is engineered to your exact spans, snow, and wind loads for large, clear-span structures. If you want a faster, bolt-together kit instead, see our prefabricated steel buildings.

Pre-engineered steel buildings (PEMB) use factory-designed, tapered steel frames sized to exact spans and loads before fabrication. Standardized engineering and components cut cost, waste and on-site time. PEMB systems suit warehouses, industrial, commercial and agricultural buildings. Canadian projects require P.Eng-stamped drawings engineered to the National Building Code and provincial codes.
Pre-engineered steel buildings — also called pre-engineered metal buildings, or PEMBs — are structures whose steel frame is engineered and fabricated to your exact spans, loads, and dimensions in a factory, then shipped as a kit and assembled on site. Because the frame is optimized before it ships, a PEMB uses less steel, goes up faster, and costs less than conventional site-built construction, while giving you wide, column-free interior space.
A pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) is a structure whose primary framing — columns and rafters — and secondary framing — girts and purlins — are engineered and fabricated in a factory to a specific design, then delivered as a kit for assembly. “Pre-engineered steel building” and “pre-engineered metal building” mean the same thing; steel is the metal used. Because the frame is optimized in the shop rather than field-built from standard sections, PEMBs use less steel to carry the same loads and go up faster than conventional construction.
| Spec | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Clear-span width | 30 ft – 200 ft+ |
| Length | Any (in bay increments) |
| Eave height | 10 ft – 40 ft+ |
| Frame | Pre-engineered tapered steel |
| Cladding | Steel panel, insulated options |
| Add-ons | Mezzanines, canopies, doors, glazing, cranes |
| Pre-engineered (PEMB) | Conventional structural steel | |
|---|---|---|
| Steel weight | Lower — optimized tapered frames | Higher — standard hot-rolled sections |
| Cost | Typically lower for single-storey | Often higher |
| Lead time | Shorter — fabricated to a proven design | Longer — engineered per project |
| Clear span | Wide, column-free | Possible but heavier |
| Best for | Warehouses, shops, commercial spans | Complex or multi-storey structures |
The terms overlap. “Prefabricated” refers to any building whose parts are made off-site; “pre-engineered” specifically means the steel frame is engineered to order as an optimized kit. Most pre-engineered metal buildings are prefabricated, but not every prefabricated building is a fully engineered PEMB. See our prefabricated steel buildings page for that approach.
Every Titan pre-engineered building is engineered to the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) and the applicable provincial code, with snow, wind, and seismic loads set for the exact site. A building for Alberta is engineered differently than one for British Columbia or Ontario.
Titan’s engineering & manufacturing standards: 25+ years of experience with in-house designers · buildings manufactured in a CSA A660 compliant and CWB / CSA W47.1 certified facility · every project delivered with stamped drawings sealed by a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
Pricing depends on size, loads, and options. See the 2026 steel building cost guide for Canada for current ranges, or contact us for a quote on your exact building.

Steel frames that are factory-made for quick assembly
Clear, open interiors that fit different uses
Designs that can be adjusted for size and purpose
Weather-tight roofing and siding for year-round protection
Ventilation options for better airflow and comfort
Steel that resists rust, rot, and pests
With pre-engineered steel, you don’t wait months for construction. The parts are made in advance and fit together on-site, cutting down build time and labor costs.
Once it’s up, your building needs very little maintenance and will stay strong for decades, whether it’s for business, farming, or storage.

Pre-engineered steel buildings power Titan’s whole lineup: Commercial Steel Buildings, Industrial Steel Buildings, Steel Warehouses, Prefabricated Steel Buildings, Agricultural Buildings, Storage Buildings, Structural Steel Buildings, Custom Steel Buildings, and Metal Buildings.
